Glossary
ArrisAlso known as belt wipe, standard safety edging used on toughened glass and also to remove sharp edge.
Bevel
Sloped edge on glass, most commonly used on mirrors.
Clean Cut
Clean cut glass with no edge work, meaning edge is quite sharp.
Custom Laminating
The process of laminating two or more panels of glass (of the customers choice) together with the customers choice of PVB thickness and colour.
Double Glazed Units
A unit of glass where two panels of glass are sealed to either side of a spacer bar. The pocket of air inside is very effective for noise and heat reduction. The use of Low E glass will also improve its solar control performance.
Finger Grip
A groove that has been ground out of the glass face to act as a handle.
Flat Grind
Standard ground edge, generally used for silicone joints but is used for other applications as well.
Flat Polish
Polished edge very popular for exposed edges such as louvre blades, shelving, showerscreens, etc.
Float/Annealed Glass
Industry standard glass, un-toughened and easily cut and laminated.
Glazing
The installation of glass into prepared opening in windows, doors partitions, etc.
High Performance Glass
Glass designed for specific uses, whether it be insulation or for reflective properties. High Performance Glass types:

Low Iron Glass
A glass with a very low iron content, to create a clearer un-tinted look.
Mirror
Glass with a reflective silver backing to create a mirror effect. Available in standard or vinyl backing.
Patterned/Obscure
Glass with patterns designed to suit different tastes and uses. Obscure glass types (Some glass types may no longer be readily available):

PVB (Poly Vinyl Butryal) Interlayer
Used in laminating two pieces of glass together. Thickness increases in increments of 0.38mm.
Toughened Glass
Float/Annealled glass which has undergone the toughening process.
Toughening
The process of heating glass and then snap cooling it to strengthen it. The end result is the glass being 4-5 times stronger than before.
